Overview

Rutgers, The University State University of New Jersey, comprises four separate campus locations (Busch, College Avenue, Cook, and Douglass) all located within a few miles of New Brunswick, less than a 60-minute train or bus ride from New York City. Almost all MSMF courses are taught on Busch Campus in Piscataway, just across the Raritan River from the New Brunswick train station, while the main College Avenue campus is a 5-minute walk from the train station. Our annual financial engineering conference is located in downtown New Brunswick at the Heldrich Hotel, a 10-minute walk from the train station.

Public transportation directions from New York to New Brunswick and the Hill Center on Busch Campus

Take the Northeast Corridor New Jersey Transit line from New York Penn Station in midtown Manhattan to New Brunswick, with journey time between 40 and 65 minutes, depending on whether the train is local or express. Exit at the rear of the train. To reach Hill Center from the New Brunswick train station by Rutgers campus bus (free, with no university ID required) take the

• A bus [recommended] from the Scott Hall bus stop (beside the RU Hungry food truck) on College Avenue, a 5-minute walk from the train station, to the Hill Center bus stop on Frelinghuysen Road; or
• H bus from Scott Hall to the Werblin Gym Main Entrance stop (at the traffic circle intersection of Frelinghuysen and Bartholomew Roads), a 5-minute walk from the Hill Center; or
• EE bus from the train station bus stop to the Student Activities Center bus stop and transfer to the A or H buses and follow either of the preceding directions.

Alternatively, take a taxi^[*] from the train station, with fare about $10.

Busch campus classrooms are less than a 5-minute walk from the Hill Center bus stop.

Public transportation directions from the Hill Center on Busch Campus and New Brunswick to New York

To reach the New Brunswick train station from the Hill Center by bus take the

• H bus [recommended] from the Hill Center to Scott Hall and walk to the train station or exit at the preceding Rutgers Campus Center bus stop on College Avenue and transfer to the EE bus or New BrunsQuick Shuttle for the train station; or
  
• A bus from the Werblin Gym Main Entrance to Scott Hall or the Rutgers Campus Center and follow the preceding directions.

Alternatively, call Victory Cabs, (732) 545-6666, for a taxi to take you from the Hill Center bus stop (a 10-minute wait during off-peak hours) to the train station, about a 10-minute ride.

Visit New Jersey Transit for the train schedule between New Brunswick and New York Penn Station, Manhattan. Alternatively, CoachUSA/Suburban Transit provide an express commuter bus service between New Brunswick and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan, with a bus stop at the PNC bank, opposite the train station.

Driving directions, airport transportation, and other travel information

For driving directions to the parking lot on Frelinghuysen Road opposite the Hill Center via Google maps or GPS, please use the "Directions to the Department" advice at the top of the Department of Mathematics travel directions page; do not use the 110 Frelinghuysen Road address with Google maps or satellite navigation systems, as it is incorrectly located on those maps and navigation systems. To reach the parking lot off Brett Road, just behind the CoRE building (adjoining the Hill Center), with GPS or Google maps, please use directions to 98 Frelinghuysen Road or follow the Department of Mathematics own travel by car directions.

By far the most convenient airport for visitors to New Brunswick is Newark International Liberty Airport, a 30-minute ride to New Brunswick via a New Jersey Transit commuter train. Olympic Airporter provides shuttle, shared ride, and private car service between locations in New Jersey and the main regional airports, Newark, Kennedy, and LaGuardia.
